I had a weekend rush print job for a client that needed supports. Alas, I goofed and forgot to bring the second spool holder home to hold the spool of HIPS support material.
Solution: a 4-pack of CAPITA metal "spool holders" from IKEA: $12. ( http://m.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/art/20054563/ )
The CAPITA is normally used as legs to elevate a piece of furniture (usually to add a shelf to a desk). The metal "spool holder" rod is threaded M10, which then screws on to the threaded stud on the mounting plate.
On the Replicator, I simply put the threaded stud through the spool holder slot, then attached the rod (and spacer) to the stud. 30 seconds, and done!
