Our white HIPS with MakerBot Flourescent Red ABS. Notice how well the sphere bottom (shown at top) turned out. Sliced with MakerWare 2.4.1. Printed on MakerBot Replicator 2X.
The magic to this print appears to be MakerWare printing the sphere on a ABS raft, with the HIPS strictly as a support, and not a base. (Compare to silver prints below.)
Penny for scale.
Our silver ABS on silver HIPS. The bottom of the sphere was built on top of the HIPS support, instead of on a ABS base. Sliced with KISSlicer. Printed on Replicator Dual
Penny for scale.
You can see that the HIPS base formed a complete nest. The initial small contact patch of ABS did not adhere well to the HIPS. The resulting shift most likely contributed to the geometry error of this sphere.
